I think I got the travel bug at a young age when I’d travel out of the US to see family in Central America; which mayhaps, has influenced or grown my love for travel throughout the years. Sadly, when you’re broke ass doesn’t have much money for travel, you become a bit of scrounger or in my case, along with my best friend, are the one who joins along for the ride and experience and have a super awesome friend to help pay for you or understand your situation- which I’ve ALWAYS been super thankful for. If not, you
turn into a money-pincher (or penny pincher, I believe is the term), or a tightwad, that doesn’t bother to hand out any cash once found until the big events that you can either pay back the awesome friends or enjoy some splurging of your own…
Nah, I’ve never been the tightwad type, nor will I start to be one; but don’t think I’m someone who’s willing to let cash go like water! If anything saving is the name of the game for me, while having fun with friends. 🙂 Anyway, this update is of my first trip to Tampa! Boy was I thrilled- ecstatic more like it! It was a planned out, four day trip, that my two, awesome new friends, Aimee, Pablo and I had been working on for over a month in advance; after all, our main priority and true to the very core of its existence of this trip, was to see Front 242; LIVE, at The Orpheum in Ybor City, Tampa. After that big number, our itinerary pretty much included sight seeing, food, The Castle, food, photography, the Dali Museum, driving, food, Orlando, food, sleep, Horror Nights, more driving and more food. Fat asses we are! xD
September 25, our day of departure. Early morning wake up, gotta double check everything the night before, made sure I wasn’t missing anything thankfully. Printed my ticket for the concert, then the waiting game began. I was scheduled to be picked around 11:00, but having heard nothing from my phone, I figured my ride was late. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, for he was on time, but because of a misinterpretation; 20 minutes flew by and that to me was not killing time, that was a loss. So I bolted out the door, duffel bag in hand, tiny bag over shoulder and we left with no time to waste.
It seems we weren’t meant to leave Miami on time as how we planned, the weather was (though beautiful) not the best for driving out any time soon, and Aimee was waiting to get her hair done (the cut and design was wicked cool by the way), so Pablo and I decided to head off to find some grub. Aimee recommended a small, yet ever so delicious empanada restaurant, by the name of ‘Go-Go Fresh Foods,’ which oh my god, these empanadas were to die for! I have to go back, it’s a must!
After a delicious empanada lunch, fresh strawberry lemonade and a few photos of our food porn and starter of our trip, we left South Beach, picked up Aimee, off to their place for a last minute packing someone forgot to do the night before- tisk tisk.
After we killed some time for last minute packing, and a rushed job at saving the perishables (bananas in lemon juice if you don’t want brown bananas, by the way); we were out the door into the elevator and to the car. Pablo and I were the first to head out, then Aimee; but I noticed I left my nolongerhuman hoodie (which, by the way, don’t forget to check up for updates) in their living room and I had to run back inside to rescue my blanket of warmth. So up the elevator once again, through the door, but to my surprise… No hoodie; no Aimee. O,.,O Shit, Aimee had already bolted out the door as we were ascending. Sure enough, we guessed correctly and I saw her from the window waiting for my return to the car. Finally we planted our asses in the car and we were off, on our long, four and a half hour drive to Tampa.
The concert was scheduled to start at 20:00-20:30, we left Miami, exactly at 14:46. Cutting it short in my book, seeing as we had nothing in our stomachs; not to mention we planned as soon as we arrived; to dine, get dressed (which takes us about an hour), then drive to Ybor City, find parking and yeah, you guys get the picture..
Despite the pouring rain, the ride was pleasant and loads of fun. We were awesome DJ’s, if I do say so myself. Oh what an array of awesomely, gruesome and wicked songs to fill that little black heart full of enlightenment and hyper-tendencies! @,.,@ Ahem… Any way, I’ll share the videos of some of the songs of the ride I managed to record, not to mention the beautiful scenery.
We DJ to Tampa. 😉
It wasn’t all blue, open skies throughout the entire trip. According to the weather forecast, it was to be blue skies with some clouds, but knowing the unpredictable weather of Florida; heavy rain storms, some showers and drizzles with a lot of cloud coverage was the true forecast. Once we made the 84 mile mark to our destination, which landed us right on the highway to Tampa, the weather cleared up and allowed us to enter the hotel comfortably- phew. Here are some shots of our sweet stay; Le Meridien Tampa.
After checking out the room; we had to speed things up and move our asses fast to make it in time to the concert. Since we arrived to the hotel around 19:30 (7:30) we decided to kill two birds with one stone, so we ordered room service and got our asses moving. Clothes were flying in the air, shoes were being tossed around, makeup bags tossed onto the pile of clothes… If you’ve ever been to a concert, you know you want to look your best. Needless to say, we nailed it; and just in time too- FOOD!
I have to check my camera for some images – if I took any- of the delish meal we ate at the hotel. Damn that was an amazing chicken sandwich, and that toffee Crème brûlée OH MY GOD!!! So amazing! *drooling*
With our tummies full and our wicked cool selves ready to hit the streets of Ybor. Getting there was a piece of cake, parking was smooth and the weather, nice and cool. We got about an hour and half too early, but there’s nothing wrong with showing up before the grand event. So long as you make it; that is what’s important.
Once again… The video I’ll have to upload onto YouTube of my awesome night getting to see Front 242 LIVE! What I offer is not as amazin
After purchasing some merch as a reminder of the wicked night and becoming partially deaf we decided to kill some time by taking some more pictures, carry on a few chats with friends and walking about Ybor.
